Oddly Enough

In today's installment of Reuters' "Oddly Enough" we have this story about one those crazy, wacky Iranians killing a woman for proposing, then slapping a man.

Oddly Enough!

Also featured today was this story about a crack-down on "alluring" mannequins in shops and street bazaars. Those crazy Iranians. What weird and wild things will they do next? Stay tuned to Reuters to find out!

Preposterous

Say it ain't so, lesbians in the WNBA? What's next? Gays in professional ice skating?

I fail to see how this is news.

Scott Adams on blogging...

People who are trying to decide whether to create a blog or not go through a thought process much like this:

1. The world sure needs more of ME.
2. Maybe I’ll shout more often so that people nearby can experience the joy of knowing my thoughts.
3. No, wait, shouting looks too crazy.
4. I know – I’ll write down my daily thoughts and badger people to read them.
5. If only there was a description for this process that doesn’t involve the words egomaniac or unnecessary.
6. What? It’s called a blog? I’m there!

Just a matter of time, I guess, before she asks that Bush be charged with negligent homicide.

Today's MSM Bias

This week's edition comes from the AJC.

A (Clinton appointed) federal judge overturned Georgia's new voter ID law, which basically says you have to have one, and if you don't, we'll give it to you. He used poll tax arguements (all of which were bogus).

http://www.ajc.com/news/content/metro/1005/19metvoterid.html

Now, I did't have a big problem with the first article. It's the article RIGHT NEXT to it with a photo and a headline "Voter ID judge long known for fairness"

http://www.ajc.com/print/content/epaper/editions/today/news_34551f99820e21e80028.html

Could this be any more blatant? It's sad how obvious this was "the legislature passed this law, but this wise and fair judge overturned it - what a swell guy".

Don't skip this one from today's Nuze

Mike S. Adams, Colleges to avoid, part II. Guess which one is featured in this installment.

Maybe I will print this out and send it back in the return envelope every time I get a "Roll Call" notice.

The more things stay the same

John Edwards was on CNN this morning talking to Soledad O'Brien about his goal of ending "poverty as we know it".

Sort of sounds like LBJ's "War on Poverty" to me. As if THAT worked.

Edwards is focusing on college students, probably because they are naive. Seriously, look at the list of liberal havens.

"He asked the students to spend 20 hours a semester doing volunteer advocacy for issues such as raising the minimum wage."

Link to story

What am I missing here?

From Fox News Tongue Tied (emphasis mine) about a U-haul sign saying "don't hire the illegal laborers":

Tom Wilson, co-executive director of the Canal Alliance, an agency that provides assistance to local laborers, says he has received about a dozen complaints about the U-Haul company's sign.

"The tack they're taking is a particularly troubling one," Wilson said. "They're painting illegal day workers as criminals, making generalizations about a group of people."
-----

So let me get this straight. Tom Wilson says illegal day workers are not criminals. What part of illegal does he not understand?

Now if it's all done legally, then that's another story, but that's not what he said.

Separated at Birth?

Well, except for the 20-year age difference.

Stinkin' Journalists

It's the little things that piss me off. You'd think that a journalist might be able to put together a sentence that isn't complete crap.

From 11Alive's web site 10/13/05 5:45pm (because it will be gone soon, I'm sure).

Apparently, only 2 black folks have ever graduated from 'Bama. If you actually read the article, they go one to explain that she was one of the first two admitted. It's the same way in print, the 3 sentence blurb on A1 that wants you to read the full story on A5 is grossly misleading.

I just can't figure out if they purposely put bad info on those blurbs, or if they are just dumb.

I'm done ranting now.

Time for a purge

Ugh. Do any of these people do anything that would benefit their constituents anymore?

the panel also indicated it would not recommend a national retail sales tax.

This plus the broadcast flag issue, and the resistence to pork reduction.

I think I will be voting against all incumbents for a while...

UPDATE:

I saw an interview with Connie Mack on the breakroom TV just now. It was some financial channel, and the interviewer didn't seem to care about the NRST comment. They kept talking about the mortgage interest deduction and how it would affect Real Estate investment, etc.

Come on, people... BIGGER PICTURE. Ugh. ugh ugh.

Explosives at Tech

In between Cloudman and Glenn, apparently.

The custodian found the three devices about 9 a.m. in a plastic-type garbage bag, Moss said. When he picked up the bag, one exploded, as it was designed to do when handled. The explosives were made up of chemicals placed inside plastic bottles and could have seriously injured someone, officials said. Numerous agencies were on the Georgia Tech campus to search for suspects.
They're calling it a terrorist act, but I'm not inclined to think it's part of anything larger. From that description it seems like something a disgruntled chemistry student would come up with. Plus, if it were a professional bomb, it would seem more likely to have been a much bigger explosion. Hopefully they'll release more details soon.

Things THEY Don't Want You To Know

This week's feature is late because I got caught in a time-space vortex trap THEY set for me. It was a stupid mistake, and let's just say I won't be getting a hooker in Reno ever again. Plus, there was a football game. At any rate, this week we feature a fellow Freedom and Truth Fighter, a man who is so dedicated to the cause of the TRUTH that he quit his job as a weatherman to pursue full-time the pursuit of the truth (which is out there, somewhere). Without further adieu, I present to you this week, the greatest conspiracy theory of all time:

Weather Wars.

Not only does this theory explain the devastation of Katrina (perpetrated by the Yakuza, using KGB weather manipulating technology, as retaliation for the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki) but also manages to tie in a vast alien construction project taking place right next to the sun (of which NASA and the government are fully aware, yet obfuscate the truth from the public).

Read and learn.

Unadulterate pap, er... pop culture.

The "Most Viewed News Story" on Yahoo is that the Top Gun guy and that psycho chick are pregnant. Ugh. (The "most-emailed photo" is this cool one of a snake that unsuccessfully ate an alligator. )

So... let's start the pool. In which month of which year will they announce their split/divorce? Either count. Leave your guess in the comments.

Also, any interest in starting a dead pool for 2006? We'd need to get more people involved but that shouldn't be too tough.

We should get some more people around here. Do we publicize on the drumalum list, or just stay quiet?

De ja vu

Something about this seems eerily familiar....

Oh, wait! I know! Yeah, they tried something like this back in the 90's. It was called DIVX, and it failed miserably. How quickly they forget...

This has got to be Bush's fault

Apparently, we're all going to die in 2035. At least according to Russian scientists.

Celebrity worship

Over the last few months, I've gotten more and more annoyed at "news" that isn't news in any way, shape or form. The worst is the celebrity worship fueled by magizines like People and US Weekly.

This article about Angelina Jolie's kids in particular got on my nerves. People look to Angelina Jolie as an example of parenting? This is a woman who wore a vial of Billy Bob Thorton's blood as a neckalace. That's disturbing.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,170834,00.html

Parenting is not a task that should be undertaken without complete dedication - somehow this quote doesn't convince me that's happening:

"I live in New York City. Babies have become fashion accessories. Kids are now fashion accessories," Wasserman said.

Then I wonder why I hear stories from teachers telling me that their students' parents don't care what they do (or don't do) in school.

Monday morning education

I had a meeting cancelled this morning, so I used the time to educate myself a bit. Boortz encouraged me to look up my US Representative and Senators and figure out when my Senators are up for re-election.

Sen. Richard Burr was just elected, so he's up in 2010. According to the FairTax Scorecards, he is leaning towards support of the FairTax.

Sen. Elizabeth Dole is up for reelection on 2008. She doesn't seem to care about responding to people asking about her support of the Fairtax, and is "leaning against" it.

Rep. David Price is a Democrat and he claims on his website that he does not support the FairTax.

A map of my Congressional district (see NC district 4) shows how the seemingly right-leaning-ness of Cary and Northern Raleigh was overwhelmed by the district's inclusion of Durham (Duke) and Chapel Hill (UNC.)

So if you haven't done so already, use the links above and learn about your critters.
