Well of course they're opposed to it...

The NC legislature has passed a bill allowing some trials of "instant runoff" voting. (See the article for an explanation).

Instant runoff voting is a very good idea for those who support third-parties. For instance, instead of voting for Bush because you absolutely don't want to see Kerry win, you could instead vote for the third-party candidate you really support, and then make Bush your 2nd choice.


House Republican Leader Joe Kiser, R-Lincoln, urged colleagues to reject the plan. Opponents say the measure would change campaign strategy and confuse voters.

"This is a drastic change in which we hold our elections in North Carolina," Kiser said. "It will change us forever."


And that's a bad thing why?
